Guadalest

Guadalest is a typical Moorish village perched on precipitous cliffs overlooking a fertile valley.

The old part of the village was built in such a way that the only access is through a tunnel carved out of solid rock. Inside are the remains of the castle, the cemetery and the old rooms and dungeons of the town hall which date back to the XIIth  century.

There are various museums, exhibitions and a variety of shops that sell hand-crafted pottery, embroidery and glassware.

Access road to Guadalest Castle.

Algar Falls

The Algar Falls is perhaps one of the greatest surprises to be found in the area.

Tārbena provides the water supply for this outstanding series of natural and man-made pools and cascades. The combination of ample water and a benign microclimate mean sugar cane and bananas also grow here.

In warm weather you can enjoy a dip, have lunch at one of the various restaurants or go and explore the nearby water museum, environment museum or exhibition of cactus plants.

Petracos

The
Pla de Petracos is one of the best preserved examples of Levantine cave art to be found anywhere in Valencia.

Levantine cave art flourished between 5,000 and 8,000 years ago. These paintings are quite distinct from those found further north at Altamira and Lascaux (France) and are typical of other cave paintings found throughout the Costa Blanca.

Another characteristic of Levantine cave art is that the paintings are always located in shallow hollows in cliff faces.
